Fashion trendsetters and bandwagoneers once again were on display at this week’s LA Fashion Week, strutting their eco friendly cuts on the catwalk.
2011 LA Fashion Week feat. Green Youth Movement (GYM)
Cloth connoisseurs came to see the latest and greatest trends and styles in garments, and were given a glimpse into what the Green Youth Movement (GYM) considers to be the next wave in apparel must-haves: Clean Energy Fashion.
GYM’s goal is to educate kids on how to be eco friendly. The group’s founder, Ally Maize, believes “We’re the next generation and can and will make a difference”.
This year’s LA Fashion Week GYM event was titled: “The Green Initiative Humanitarian Fashion Show”
Kristinit was the first designer on display. The clothes are all fun, lightweight, comfortable and chic. Next up was Kiokjay, which is more dressed up for evening wear unlike Kristinit, which seems more laid back.
Jonano is another leg up on Kiokjay vis-a-vis style yet nothing to write home about.
The finale was displayed by Emily Factor. Very light, and softly flowing. This was a fan favorite and used a lot of earth tone colors and designs.
Whatever your taste, one thing is for sure: Clean energy fashion is here to stay. It is not a fad. It is no longer just a Hollywood hangup. Concern for the environment will continue to play a growing role in the priorities of ethical designers.
